Why We Continue to Fight for Victoria Park

Because some things are too important to walk away from. This isn’t about being anti-Olympics. It’s about standing up for a place that holds deep meaning for community, for climate, for culture, for First Nations people and for future generations. Victoria Park is more than just open space - it’s never been just ‘vacant land.’ It’s one of our last inner-city green pockets that breathes life into our dense and rapidly developing city. This land has been home to First Nations people, WWII war brides, American soldiers, public housing residents, school children and families for generations. It’s where wildlife still find refuge in the heart of our city. It’s where Brisbane breathes. It’s a place of memory and of meaning. Every inch of it is heritage-listed for a reason. And once it’s gone, we can’t get it back…

  2. Stop the Stadium Development


    We stand firmly against the proposed 63,000 seat Olympic stadium that threatens to destroy this cherished parkland. Our focus is on safeguarding this community space from irreversible environmental and social harm.

  3. Revise the BCC Master Plan


    We advocate for a park design that prioritises open, usable green spaces over commercial developments. Victoria Park should remain a welcoming, accessible haven for relaxation, recreation, and connection with nature—not a venue for profit-driven ventures.

  4. Secure Protection Forever


    Our ultimate goal is to legally designate Victoria Park as a protected area in perpetuity. This ensures future governments and developers cannot compromise its integrity, preserving its beauty and purpose for generations to come.

Five former Brisbane mayors from both major political parties are on the record as opposing a stadium in Victoria Park. These mayors, including Campbell Newman, Jim Soorley, Tim Quinn, Bryan Walsh, and Sallyanne Atkinson spoke out against a stadium after the Quirk report was released in March 2024.
