One of the concerns we have had since the Quirk Report was released in March this year, has been the changing position of the Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner, about a stadium being built in Victoria Park.
Since 2019 when he announced the closure of the 90-year old golf course, he has championed the redevelopment of Victoria Park into Brisbane's 'Central Park.' Before the council elections in March this year, he said no to a stadium - 'we already have a plan' he said.
Less than a week later, after the election, he said 'there's a compelling case' for a stadium in the park. Since March, the Lord Mayor has become increasingly pro-stadium for Victoria Park / Barrambin - an amazing about-face in such a short time. He should be fighting tooth and nail for his vision for the park.
not giving away great swathes of it to be concreted over.
We have an opportunity to make our views plain to the Lord Mayor.
On Sunday, 15 December, he will be opening the new Kangaroo Point Bridge. We are not planning to disrupt this event - ours will be a silent and peaceful protest, one you can bring your family to.
Join us in a peaceful silent protest to stand against the proposed stadium development in Victoria Park / Barrambin. Together, we can make our views known and protect this cherished green space for future generations.
